Local Field Day Sites 2008

The American Radio Relay League (ARRL) sponsors Field Day nationwide on Saturday & Sunday, June 28-29. This is a chance for hams across the country to operate on emergency power in the field, and for the general public to see what we do, how we do it, and Get On The Air (GOTA) without a ham license. Most sites operate for 24 hours from 1100 Saturday morning until 1100 Sunday morning. You do not need a ham license to operate a ham radio under the supervision of a licensed ham. San Mateo Radio Club (W6UQ) - Beresford Park, Alameda de las Pulgas at 27th/28th streets. Site is at the up-hill shelter at the West end, BBQ area. Take Hwy 92 West to Alameda, then left to 28th street. Talk-in on 145.650 MHz simplex. Contact: James A Muiter, N6TP.

Palo Alto Amateur Radio Association (PAARA) - Call: W6OTX, W6ARA & K6OTA (for GOTA). Bayfront Park in Menlo Park. Follow Marsh Road East towards the bay, it ends at Bayfront Park. Get in the far left turn lane, so you can go straight through the gate and into the park. Follow the yellow PAARA signs. Gate is open until 9:00 p.m. After that, call on N6NFI/R for access. Stanford Amateur Radio Club - Call: W6YX. Stanford Emergency Operations Facility (Site 530) near the Stanford Big Dish. We're at grid-square CM87wj, 37.40340W, 122.16575N. Park on Stanford Avenue and hike up OR call the shack 650-856-2737. Talk-in on N6BDE/R, 440.200 MHz, 123.0 PL, or W6YX/R 1282.5, -12, 88.5 PL.

Mountain View ARES - Call: K6MTV. Saturday 1100-2000 hrs - Operating at Fire Station 4, 329 Whisman Road, Mountain View. Fire Station 4 is on Whisman between Central Expressway and Middlefield Road. From Hwy 101, take the Moffett Blvd exit toward downtown. Make a left at Middlefield, then a right at Whisman. Station has a big fire tower and the Mountain View maintenance facility is there. Foothills Amateur Radio Society (FARS) - Call: K6YA. FARS holds Field Day at the Maryknoll Seminary near Rancho San Antonio, Los Altos Hills. GOTA (Get On the Air) and join us for the potluck BBQ Saturday night around 5:00 p.m. Sign-up on the web site. Take Interstate 280 towards the Los Altos / Mountain View border. Exit onto Foothill Expressway and head South. Make a right turn onto Cristo Rey Drive (first light). When you come to the traffic circle, follow the signs towards Rancho San Antonio Park. Go past the park entrance and turn right into the Maryknoll (private) driveway at 29000 Cristo Rey Drive. Go through the gate, turn right and you'll see the antennas. West Valley Amateur Radio Association (WVARA) - N6N, K6EI & W6ZZZ. Mora Hill in Rancho San Antonio in Los Altos Hills. Take the Magdalena exit West (toward the hills) off highway 280. Go left onto Eastbrook (frontage road) then make a right onto Mora Drive. Keep going past Sunhills Drive to the water tank, site is behind it. Lat/Long - N 37.3358 W 122.0993. Sunnyvale ARES - Call: K6SNY. Raynor Park Building, 1515 Quail Ave, Sunnyvale CA 94087. Quail Avenue intersects El Camino Real and Homestead Road. Saratoga Amateur Radio Association - Call: K6SA. California Dept. of Forestry land near Castle Rock State Park, 37.246N, 122.109W. The site is on the left, one mile south of Hwy 9 on Skyline (Summit) Road. The entrance road angles to the left at 30 degrees - turn around in the road turnout just beyond the entrance on the right. East Bay Amateur Radio Club (EBARC) - Call: W6CUS. Ceasar Chavez Park (North side of road), Berkeley Marina. Take I-80 to Berkeley. Exit University Ave towards the bay & Berkeley Marina (away from the hills). When the road makes a fork, bear right. When you are near the traffic circle, look for a place to park. Okay to park along the road or in the parking lot near the traffic circle but don't park in the hotel parking lot. Talk-in: 145.110 simplex (copper thieves took the repeater offline).

Oakland Radio Communication Association (ORCA) - Sequoia Arena in Joaquin Miller Park, Oakland. 37.8152 N / 122.1835 W. Directions: Exit Highway 13 at Joaquin Miller Road or Redwood Road, following signs toward Chabot Space and Science Center. On Skyline Blvd, after passing the entrance to Roberts Regional Recreation Area on your right, watch for the entrance to Sequoia Arena on your left, about 100 meters before you reach the entrance to Chabot Space and Science Center. Talk-in on -146.880 MHz, 77 PL.

Amateur Radio Club of Alameda (ARCA) - Call: K6QLF. Alameda Point (former Navy base), 431 Stardust Place & W. Midway Ave, Bldg 522, Alameda Point. Next to the Red Cross Building. To get there from the corner of Webster St. and Atlantic Ave., go west on Atlantic to Main St., and turn right. Turn left on Midway Ave., then left again on Norfolk Rd., immediately right on Stardust Pl., and right again into the first parking lot. Mount Diablo ARC - MDARC's Field Day activities will take place this year at Heather Farm Park in Walnut Creek. Talk-in on W6CX/R 147.060 MHz, 100 PL.

Union City ARES/RACES - Meets at Hall Ranch Field at the corner of Dyer St. & Regents Blvd in Union City. Talk-in on -146.610 MHz, 123 PL, or 146.415 simplex.

South Bay Amateur Radio Association (SBARA) - Call: KU6S. Central Park (Lake Elizabeth), Paseo Padre Pkwy & Sailway Dr, Fremont. Take Stevenson Blvd off Hwy 880. Head East about 2 miles. San Francisco Amateur Radio Club (SFARC) - Call: W6PW. Enter the Presidio from 15th Ave. & Lake St. at the 1st stop sign turn LEFT, go to the top of the hill at the STOP sign turn LEFT again (now on Washington blvd.) as you go around the right-hand turn you'll see COMPTON RD. and a GREEN METAL gate, that is the road to the field day site. Closed gate means no parking and you'll to go to the campground gate, park outside of the gate and walk up. If you are delivering supplies, call ahead of time to have the gate open.
